Ok. I have to admit, I am the one that always says to a client that does not like the flooring, wallpaper, back splash, ect...it can be replaced. Which is true. Love the layout and location of the home but hate the tile floor, its an easy fix. Well, I have learned to omit the "easy" in that sentence. Unless you do whatever change you are wanting BEFORE you move in, its not easy. I wish I would have had the foresight to get a hotel for a few days or even set up my travel trailer in the driveway while my reno work was being done. But sadly, I did not. We had our tile taken up throughout the home as well as our kitchen cabinets professionally painted. Visqueen and fans would surely keep the dust to a minimum. NOPE! I would have no problem making a meal in my kitchen. After all, the workers are done at 5 and my life can carry on .NOT A CHANCE! Where are my pans? My utensils? WHERE IS THE SALT SHAKER???!!!! What a nightmare! Don't even get me started on how impossible it was to make a simple bowl of cereal! So after eating at every fast food establishment that my town has to offer, and gaining 10 pounds, my house is done . YAY! Or so I thought. No celebrating yet. Its time to clean. FROM THE CEILING TO THE FLOOR! TO THE WINDOWS TO THE WALLS! Dust is on every nook and every cranny. The glass on light fixtures hand washed, blinds taken down to scrub. Walls wiped down...fans....furniture...the list goes on and on and on and on. If it is in the house, it needed to be scrubbed! Don't get me wrong. I am very happy with the results. I can not believe that we waited so long to get wood floors and update the kitchen. It looks like a completely different house. I absolutely love the transformation. I just wish my memory did not block out the numerous DIY shows I have watched and would have thought to leave for a few weeks. Now I know why they send the homeowners away to a resort while filming those home reno shows. Trust me.....its not all about the surprise factor.
